In November, I started thinking about making traditions as a family and decided to try out a few ideas I had seen on Pinterest. I think I will make a few changes for next year, but I liked some of the things we did this year.
December started with purchasing/decorating our tree. A few days later, some wrapped packages appeared under the tree and the fun began. The first package was "A Muppet Christmas Carol." During the kids' bath time, I made a batch of Mickey Mouse Christmas cookies and poured milk in the cups. We tossed pillows and blankets on the bed and curled up in our pj's. Let the movie fun and cookie eating begin!
A few days later it was time for package number 2. I attempted Charlie Brown pancakes for breakfast-they tasted good at least ;) After breakfast, the kids opened their surprise-"A Charlie Brown Christmas" and we had an early morning movie date.
Two weekends before Christmas was the lights at Travis Price park. We didn't tell the kids we were going so proceeded as normal for bedtime-dinner, bath, pjs. But instead of bed, we grabbed blankets and loaded up the car. When we got the park, the kids unbuckled and came to the front seat and we gave them their hot chocolate and marshmallows surprise. Both kiddos loved the lights!
The week before Christmas we opened package number 3- "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and made Grinch punch. The kids loved it- the movie and the punch! Definitely and new family tradition! So easy, yet so fun!
Throughout the month, we also opened several Christmas books to read-some were new and some were old ones rewrapped. My favorite night we read J is for Jesus (preschool version of the legend of the candy cane). We gave each kid a mini candy cane after the story and Kevin talked to them about what we had read and asked questions about their candy cane. So precious!
We also started a new Christmas Eve tradition, but that will follow later ;)
